We had one plant out of several in our front yard that was totally eaten except just the leaf stem. Totally gone 2 days after I first noticed. Weird! And then they were gone. Didn't even touch plants and flowers right next to it.

It's probably too late for my response at this point, but here it goes!

I have heard great things about the St. Charles Presbyterian Church preschool (by Lindenwood) and the Methodist Church (on 1st Capitol). My kids have not attended either, but I plan to send my son to the Presbyterian one next fall.

If you are looking for a full time preschool/daycare facility, we really liked Hope Academy. My daughter went there for 2 years before entering Kindergarten and really enjoyed it there. She developed great skills to get her ready for Kindergarten.

was curious about the rest of the neighborhood's experience with Japanese beetles about a month ago.

We had a plum tree that was completely infested (I thought it was a hive of bees swarming initially). They ate virtually every leaf on the upper 80% of the tree (leaving leaf skeletons).

Later found them in every birch on our yard (5)
every Japanese maple (5)
and our crab-apple (1).

So about half our trees were on the menu. I finally had to use Sevin in a hose sprayer.

Need to follow up with grub killer in some form (milky spore - natural method), or one of the chemical warfare agents. Even if you did not see beetles on your trees, you probably have grubs in your yard if you live in the neighborhood. They don't lay eggs necessarily in the yard they ate in :-)

I have never noticed beetles in any previous year, and my goodness, when they showed up, they brought EVERYBODY this year.

Any opinions on local preschools? Church affiliated or other!

Ok, I don't need a riding mower anymore, but I'm now looking for somebody that'll come to my place and tune one up. Anybody know anybody?

It's getting to be time to replace the railroad tie retaining wall in our back yard. We are hoping to replace with stone/brick so we can hopefully never think about it again!

Does anyone have a company they have worked with and would recommend?  Any that should be avoided?
